Sunday Liturgy & Announcements for March 1

We post the liturgy from the week so it will be accessible to you throughout the week. We encourage you to work through the catechism or be reminded about what Scripture was read in the service on Lords Day.

Call To Worship

LEADER

Psalm 24:1 The earth is the LORD’s, and everything in it,

the world, and all who live in it; 2 for he founded it on the seas

and established it on the waters. 3 Who may ascend the mountain of the LORD?

Who may stand in his holy place? 4 The one who has clean hands and a pure heart,

who does not trust in an idol or swear by a false god. 5 They will receive blessing from the LORD

and vindication from God their Savior. 6 Such is the generation of those who seek him,

who seek your face, God of Jacob. 7 Lift up your heads, you gates; be lifted up, you ancient doors,

that the King of glory may come in. 8 Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty,

the LORD mighty in battle. 9 Lift up your heads, you gates; lift them up, you ancient doors,

that the King of glory may come in. 10 Who is he, this King of glory?

PEOPLE

The LORD Almighty —

he is the King of glory.

Confession

LEADER

Mark 10:46 And they came to Jericho. And as he was leaving Jericho with his disciples and a great crowd, Bartimaeus, a blind beggar, the son of Timaeus, was sitting by the roadside. 47 And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say,

PEOPLE

“Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”

LEADER

48 And many rebuked him, telling him to be silent. But he cried out all the more,

PEOPLE

“Son of David, have mercy on me!”

LEADER

49 And Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.” And they called the blind man, saying to him, “Take heart. Get up; he is calling you.” 50 And throwing off his cloak, he sprang up and came to Jesus. 51 And Jesus said to him, “What do you want me to do for you?” And the blind man said to him,

PEOPLE

“Rabbi, let me recover my sight.”

LEADER

52 And Jesus said to him, “Go your way; your faith has made you well.” And immediately he recovered his sight and followed him on the way.

[Every week at Branches, we have an opportunity to come to the Lord Jesus like this blind man, asking for mercy. Mercy, not for physical blindness, but spiritual blindness where we do not see him always as truly as we ought. And so during this time, we enter into a time of confession, whereby we confess our sins to Christ. And we do not confess to an unmerciful God. God is always ready to receive our prayers offered in faith, through Christ. So like the blind beggar in need of sight, let us come before the LORD confessing our sins, as beggars daily in need of mercy, and let us go before him with the assurance that indeed His mercies are new every morning].

Assurance

LEADER

Lamentations 3:22 The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases;

his mercies never come to an end;

23 they are new every morning;

great is your faithfulness.

24 “The LORD is my portion,” says my soul,

“therefore I will hope in him.”

25 The LORD is good to those who wait for him,

to the soul who seeks him.

PEOPLE

The LORD is my portion, therefore I will hope in him. Amen.
